Barely 20 minutes later, a very lively and strong heifer was born, she was very active and wanted to get up and stand almost immediately, Rössa was a little cool at first but after a while she licked and bonded with the calf.

171 Rössa was a whoops calf herself which we didn’t expect but her mother was incredibly good, so good in fact that she came and was with the whole birth and when the calf started, she lay down as close as she could and drove everyone else away cows from his daughter and granddaughter.

Every delivery that goes well is a gift when you see that both the cow and the calf are coping and bonding with each other, a week or so in the calving box then they are both ready to join the rest of the herd.

This is a great success for our work to preserve Scanian Red Cattle where every calf is important and a step closer to saving the breed, our long-term goal is over 5000 animals, we have passed the first basic goal of 50 animals and are now aiming for 500 animals , we cannot and should not do this increase ourselves, but we need several farms that want to be involved and preserve this unique breed for the future.
