Possibly the ugliest fruit with the worst name “Open-arse” the Medlar is one of those forgotten trees that are now making a comeback. It’s not the name that made them more on common but rather that they need to mature or ‘bletted’ that happens naturally after the frost or during storing, the flesh turns from a crispy white to a soft brown rich in taste and very fragrant.
